Wellbeing

We facilitate almost 100 million customer journeys a year, from schools to inter-city to city and town services. Everyone in our team of 3,000 employees plays an important role in the safe delivery of services to our customers.

Providing a safe and healthy work environment for all our employees is very important to us at Bus Éireann. Our Wellbeing Strategy focuses on promotion, prevention, and rehabilitation.

Building a culture that promotes best practices in supporting mental health and wellbeing in the workplace is a key objective along with enhancing new pathways for mental health supports.

We support supervisors and managers in creating a positive work environment and promoting active wellbeing. We encourage and promote opportunities for social connectedness and involvement to build relationships and strong ties in the places in which we work and the communities in which we live. We provide information, training, education and awareness opportunities for staff to enhance wellbeing.

Our Health and Wellbeing Strategy sits under six strategic pillars; physical, mental, financial, social, intellectual and environmental. We design and implement actions across these Six strategic pillars to cultivate a healthy and thriving workforce. We strive to create a work environment where tasks and responsibilities can be accomplished within a realistic timeframe and that promotes work/life balance.

Some recent initiatives include health screening, financial wellbeing webinars as well as one-to-one clinics and awareness clinics conducted around a range of areas including health, mindfulness, and nutrition. Employees also have access to our Employee Assistance Programme and our wellness hub. The Hub provides a wide range of resources and information on all things wellbeing.

We are extremely proud of our Mental Health First aider programme with a target of 300 MHFAs in place by 2025. We are on our way to our IBEC Keepwell Mark with our audit happening in 2024.
