Apprenticeship Programme
Recognised at the National Diversity and Inclusion Awards 2023 and the CIPD Awards 2024, Bus Éireann’s award-winning Apprenticeship Programme will train you to the very highest technical standards. You will learn how to maintain all the systems in modern public service vehicles, including training on day-to-day repairs and preventative maintenance tasks, vehicle diagnostics/fault finding with some of the most advanced systems of its kind in place. Your apprenticeship comprises seven phases, three off-the-job as designated by SOLAS and four on-the-job that take place with Bus Éireann. During your time at Bus Éireann, you will be supported by our Apprenticeship Manager, David Poynton Rowley, who commenced his career on the Apprenticeship Programme, and the wider Engineering Team.
We are recruiting for Athlone, Ballina, Cork, Dublin, Dundalk, Galway, Limerick, Longford, Sligo, Stranorlar, Thurles, Tralee and Waterford Garages.

"I grew up around machinery and from an early age decided I wanted to be a mechanic. Bus Eireann had a garage in the centre of town which always impressed me so I applied for an apprenticeship. I was very impressed upon my arrival in the garage, state of the art equipment and a paint shop for body repairs. What I liked most about my time as an apprentice was the variety of work. From mechanical, to prepping buses for paiting, to tracing electrical faults, there was always something different and interesting to do! There were also many challenges from carrying out repairs in a time sensitive manner to training and upskilling to meet the demands of new technologies on our buses. I have enjoyed my time and would have no hesitation in recommending Bus Eireann as an employer. "When I saw the advert for the position of Apprentice heavy Vehicle Mechanic, I applied straight away as I always had a keen interest in mechanics. I started as an Apprentice, qualified and and progressed to permanent HV Mechanic position. Over that period of time, I received excellent training including a wide range of courses relevant to our industry. I also completed my D (bus) licence training which included advanced driver training.
